HazMat Technician (Private Industry) NFPA 472, 29 CFR 1910.120

Target Audience: Employees who are expected to approach the point of a hazardous material spill or release, while using personal protective equipment (PPE), in order to stop or control the hazardous substance.

Hazardous Materials Technicians are emergency responders who are trained to approach the point of a hazardous material spill or release, while using personal protective equipment (PPE), in order to stop or control the hazardous substance. HAZMAT Technicians perform advance control, containment, and confinement operations and use decontamination procedures. This course trains participants to plug, patch or otherwise stop a release of hazardous materials in a specific workplace. This course meets the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120 and NFPA 1072.

This 3-day course is comprised of the following:

  • Emergency response planning and ICS

  • Hazard identification and risk assessment

  • Chemical protective clothing

  • Monitoring and detection equipment

  • Decontamination

  • Offensive & defensive control options

  • Mitigation skills
