HazMat First Responder Awareness (FRA) Refresher NFPA 1072, 29 CFR 1910.120

Target Audience: Employees who, by the nature of their duties, have the potential to encounter hazardous materials and have previously been trained to the FRA level.

First responders at the awareness level are individuals who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous

substance release and who have been trained to initiate an emergency response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release. They would take no further action beyond notifying the authorities of the release. This course is designed to refresh workers on HazMat First Responder Awareness (FRA) training.

This 1-day course is comprised of the following:

  • Introduction to HazMat at the FRA level

  • Hazardous material recognition and safety

  • Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) instruction

  • Safety, Isolation, and Notifications

  • Basic command

  • Identification and hazard assessment (IDHA)

  • Action planning

HazMat First Responder Operations (FRO) Refresher NFPA 1072, 29 CFR 1910.120

Target Audience: Employees who work with hazardous materials or respond to emergencies involving hazardous materials for the purpose of protecting nearby persons, the environment, or property from the effects of the release, and have previously been trained to the FRO level.

First responders at the operations level are individuals who respond to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances as part of the initial response to the site for the purpose of protecting nearby persons, property, or the environment from the effects of the release. They are trained to respond in a defensive fashion without trying to stop the release. Their function is to contain the release from a safe distance, keep it from spreading, and prevent exposures.

This 1-day course is comprised of the following:

  • Recognizing and managing hazmat incidents

  • First responder actions

  • Hazardous materials identifications and markings

  • Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) instruction

  • PPE overview

  • FRO entry operations

  • Decontamination and mitigation

HazMat Technician (Private Industry) Refresher NFPA 472, 29 CFR 1910.120

Hazardous Materials Technicians are emergency responders who are trained to approach the point of a hazardous material spill or release, while using personal protective equipment (PPE), in order to stop or control the hazardous substance. HAZMAT Technicians perform advance control, containment, and confinement operations and use decontamination procedures. This course trains participants to plug, patch or otherwise stop a release of hazardous materials in a specific workplace. This course meets the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120 and NFPA 1072.

This 2-day course is comprised of the following:

been trained to the HazMat Incident Commander level.

Hazardous materials incidents are uniquely challenging and require educated decisive decision making. An individual, who respond to these types of emergencies and makes those decisions, is an Incident Commander. They will be responsible for all incident activities, including the development of strategies and tactics and the ordering and release of resources. This course refreshes students on the tools a person needs to assume control of an emergency response to a HazMat incident.

This 1-day course is comprised of the following:
