Confined Space Rescue Operations NFPA 1006 Chapter 7
Target Audience: Employees who work around confined spaces but not authorized for entry.
The Confined Space Rescue Operations course is 3-day (24 hour) class. The course is designed to provide rescuers with the operational knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform rescue in confined spaces
in which the victim is visible from the entry site into a space that accommodate two or more rescuers without manipulating PPE to enter and perform rescue.
Techniques include; hazard identification and mitigation, lockout-tag out, air monitoring, entry procedures, line tending skills, Supplied Air Breathing Apparatus (SABA), intrinsically safe communications, fall protection, patient packaging, and removal. Emphasis placed on review of the OSHA 1910.146 confined Space Entry standard and the elements of a permit required confined space written program
This 3-day course is comprised of the following:
Definitions and dangers of confined spaces
Introduction of applicable regulatory standards
Identification of confined spaces and the atmospheric dangers and risks
Requirements for permit-required confined spaces
Use of job safety controls for entry into potentially unsafe spaces
o Respiratory
o Gas monitoring o Ventilation
o SCBA/PPE
Mechanical advantage and anchor systems
Victim/Patient packaging
Post entry procedures
Rescue planning and basic rescue techniques
Hands-on exercises with confined space and rescue equipment
